March Activities
Children that are on our second shift have games, activities and educational DVDs to keep them happy interested during their time away from parents.
Typically, we'll design a lesson plan for the month, much like the one shown below. Each day will have its own schedule and we will incorporate the elements of the month's lesson plan into the daily activities. Monthly lesson plans and daily activity schedules are posted in the office and are also view-able online under Parent Login.
All lessons are designed for individual or group ability and creativity. Only when children show an interest in participating or advancing in activities do we move forward. No child will be left out. However, if a child prefers to play alone, we will design lessons around his or her play activity.
All children are encouraged to and enticed to participate but not pushed. Children learn at their own comfort level. March's Theme is " All kinds of ANIMALS" Language/Literacy-Staff will bring in DVD's this month on animals that live in the jungle, animals that live on a farm and animals that live with people as pets.
Class will also visit a pet store this month. Class discussion will be what did we see and remember from our field trip. Write a sentence about what we liked or didn't like about the animals.
Children will be reading books, doing animal puzzles.
Math / Recognition-Games will be played with counting domestic, farm and wild animals.
We will break it down into three selections.
Music--Children will bring in their favorite animal CD or DVD. They will help the class learn the songs they enjoy at home. Ex: "That alligator snap that monkey right out of that tree" .
If they don't have a CD or DVD at home...Homework will be to ask a parents to take them to the library this month to select one for class.
Social Studies - Each week we will read books about one class of animals, how they live, eat and sleep. Drawing pictures of their favorite animal and tell the class why they like that animal. Science - We will research how a brown cow can eat green grass and produce white milk. How does that happen? Infants - 6 weeks to 12 months Infants. Awake infants are included into our activities. They are placed so they can hear and see our activities and staff. Their names are also called out as we involve them in what we are doing no matter what the activity.
Pictures are shown to them with teacher directed interaction so infants learn and have books and activities explained to them during our day.
OUR TEACHING TECHNIQUES allows us to follow our infants' clues when they show interest in what we are doing.
After their necessary needs are met, we watch for clues as to when they are sleepy, alert, tired, want to play etc..
We do this by looking, listening and feeling for signals: Example: a baby's coo, a facial expression, body language, baby talk or whine that has not turned into a cry yet., checking for uncomfortable clothing and more.
We watch to be ready for a infants needs. We go to work before he has to cry, but when he does we are there to take care of that need. We also watch to know when an activity is maybe too loud for a infant.
Some infants like us don't mind normal noise. Other infants don't like loud activity.
At that point a staff member may remove that infant to the infant room and remain there while baby sleeps or just enjoys more relaxed environment.
Our infant room is supplied with soft blocks, books and toys. Nursing mothers are welcome to come during their breaks to feed and visit with their little ones in a cozy comfortable setting.
